I never thought that my first time being asked to stay after school to talk about one of my children would be for...being too affectionate!!! Yes, my adorable little boy loves the girls and has been seen kissing them on the arms (thankfully not on the face, though!) Although it seems that these little girls don't seem to mind, the teacher thought we better intervene just to make sure it doesn't get out of hand. Those of you who know my little Brady, know that he is such a little lovable guy. He is always kissing and hugging me, along with any other lady who will let him. I guess I never thought much of it, I acutally kind of like it as his mom!
Well, our talk about appropriate behavior at school happened with him in KINDERGARTEN!!! I couldn't help but laugh with the teacher, but inside I was thinking...great, my kid the kisser! Anyway, after Brady sat for our long discussion (me and J) I thought he would really understand. After Jason got off the couch, he leaned over to me and said..."hey mom, soooo can i have a girlfriend in first grade?" I thought I would die right there! I did my best to keep my composure, but had to excuse myself to the bathroom for a breather! I think we may have our hands full with this little buddy of ours!!!

Keegan kissed a girl in 1st grade..on the hand and cheek no less! One day he told me he had a girlfriend and was going to marry her. I was like..What?! He said he kissed her. After regaining my composure, I asked some questions to find out what happened. He said this girl had said she would faint if someone kissed her, so his friends dared him to do it. I was mortified. The teacher never saw a thing.
I really didn't know how to handle it...so I basically just told him he needed to hold his affections for his family, and for his future wife. He said "Well, I'm going to marry her." I was like, no your not. He said yes he was. I could see I wasn't going to get anywhere arguing that point, so I said..."Well, are you married to her now?" and of course he said no. So then I told him that even if he IS going to marry her, he isn't yet married so it is inappropriate to be affectionate with her. Needless to say, I'm the one that had to talk to the teacher about it and ask her to move his seat from beside this little girl.
Thankfully, I never heard reports of that happening again, and I know Keegan was innocent in it all...but wow.....I'm not thinking I signed up for this sort of stuff when I decided to be a mom! :)
Tammy, That is so funny! And yes we have had similar things with our affectionate boys! Jalen is really really affectionate with me, so I am now wondering how that will play out in the future. But, I know at recess the boys are always saying that the girls are chasing them and the girls are the ones talking about kissing, so I think the girls kind of dare these little boys, and what boy can resist a dare.
But, yeah, we have our hands full, lots of prayer thats what I say.
